Access Discover to interact with your data models and make new data discoveries, perform ad-hoc queries, and slice and dice your data.
This is where you’ll build your visualizations from scratch, make selections for those visualizations, apply styling and formatting, configure filters, integrate custom calculations, KPIs, and more.
NOTE: While users with the Viewer role won’t be able to build their own visuals directly. Instead they can access Discover and slice and dice visuals, using ad-hoc interaction capabilities. Using the "Analyze Further", they can also take an existing visualization and customize it for themselves.
To launch Discover, click on the green discover button (red arrow below) from the homepage.
Next, select the data model you want to analyze by choosing the server, database, and model that will drive the queries in your content. All examples in this guide will be based on the out-of-the-box Sample Demo. To follow along with these examples, select In-Memory DB, then Sample Demo, and then Open.
You will now arrive in Data Discovery, where you can begin building data visualizations.
You’ll have access to four ribbons in Discover:
Access the most used functions in Discover around formatting and filtering your report.
Design the look and feel of your report canvas.
Modify and reformat your specific visualizations. This is context sensitive and will changed based on the currently selected visual.
Refine your query settings and make more advanced query choices like totaling, filtering and sorting.
