Publication Print

The Publication Print jump action triggers the export of a given publication, which can then be saved and printed. Once configured, this action allows the user to click an image, text box, or infographic in their presentation at runtime to create and download a publication in formats including PDF, Powerpoint, PNG, and so on.

The following video demonstrates the configuration and use of publication print from a presentation:

Configure a Publication Print Action

Choose Action Type

From the Choose Action Type drop-down list, select Publication Print.

Select Publication

Find and select the required publication from the Content tree (red highlight below).

Document Format

Select the output format for the publication (green highlight above):

  • PDF: You can include PDF bookmarks and link-back.
  • Power Point: You can set the image quality and add a link-back.
  • Word: You can set the image quality and add a link-back.
  • Excel: You can show or hide the title and breadcrumbs for visuals, freeze worksheet panes, ignore styling, merge common cells, and add a link-back.
  • HTML: You can include link-back.
  • PNG: You can set the image quality.

Add Bookmarks (PDF only)

The "bookmarks" or "document outline" feature in a PDF allows users to quickly navigate and access specific sections or pages of their document. If you are publishing a PDF, you can create these links from the headers in your output document by selecting the Add Bookmark checkbox. The bookmarks are shown in the bookmarks panel of the PDF document.

Add Link-Back

The link-back feature allows users to click on discoveries in the output publication to open them in the viewer client, where they can interact with them dynamically. The link-back feature enables direct URL loading for data visuals in exported publications. Any slicers or filters saved to the discovery (from either Discover or Publish) will automatically be loaded using external parameterization.

Mapping presentation to publication slicers

The Slicer Mapping panel (red highlight below) opens if the presentation containing the jump action, the selected target publication contains slicers, or both. This mapping indicates which slicers in the presentation map to which slicers in the publication, so that your slicer selections can be passed from the presentation to the publication when it is opened.

To ensure that the exported publication will be filtered by the slicer selection from the presentation, make sure that each slicer in the presentation corresponds to the same slicer in the publication.
