Getting started with Publish

If you are a new user of Publish, either Pro or Lite, or you just want to explore the core Publish functionality, you can use our Getting Started guides as a crash course in creating, professionalizing, and building publications.

Each of the guides in this section walks you through the process of creating a publication from end-to-end. They focus on the most common instructions, and link through from the example information to the more detailed full help instructions that you might need when you are creating your own publication.

Tip: If you are looking for more formal training, you might want to visit our online Learning Management System, which provides access to detailed training resources. For more information, see Learning Hub.

Note: Whether you have access to Publish Pro or Publish Lite depends on your access to the system. To change your access rights, speak to your administrator.

What is Publish?

The following video shows an example of a publication being created using Publish Pro, different types of content being added, and then the output being created "on schedule."

Walkthrough Exercises

Exercise 1: Using the Chatbot

If you are licensed to use the Pyramid Chatbot, you might want to follow this end-to-end exercise to populate some pages in your publication using natural language prompts. You will use the Chatbot to create and embed new visuals, insights, and other content following two main steps: a simple step where you ask an analytic question and Pyramid decides what to do for you (which visuals to create, which visualization types to use, and so on) and a more advanced step where you supply more details in your prompt.

Note: You can only make use of this functionality if your administrator has selected the Enable Generative AI checkbox in the AI Settings page of the Admin Console. If your administrator does not select this option, the function is not available for use.

Warning: When using LLMs, your assets are generated using public domain algorithms. This can produce erroneous and inconsistent or random results. Use at your own risk.

Exercise 2: In Publish Pro

Build a new publication in Publish Pro, creating new visuals that are local to the publication, adding slicers and page insights, and setting up some text boxes and formatting options, before publishing an example output document to a schedule.

Exercise 3: In Publish Lite

Build a new publication in Publish Lite, creating new visuals that are local to the publication, adding slicers and page insights, and setting up some text boxes and formatting options, before publishing an example output document manually.
