Scale to Fit Visual Containers in Publish Lite

Selecting the Scale to Fit option allows Pyramid to re-size the selected visual to fit its container in Publish Lite and when the publication is built. This is typically useful where the visual is larger than the space available in its container and only part of the visual is visible without scaling; for example, if you have a large Matrix Grid with lots of columns of data and you prefer to scale the visual down than to re-size the container on the canvas.

Scale to Fit only applies to Grids. All graphical visual types (pie charts, bar charts, line and area charts) re-size to fit their containers, regardless of this option.

Enable or disable Scale to Fit

This option is selected from the overhead ribbon, when you have one or more visuals selected on the canvas:

  • Select Scale to Fit to re-size the visual automatically to fit its container. With this option selected, re-sizing the panel on the canvas causes the visual content to be re-sized along with its container.
  • Clear the Scale to Fit option to return the visual to its default size.

Tip: When you are designing your publication, you might want to toggle this option on and off to ensure that the whole visual is visible in the container.

Interaction with Miniature visuals

If you have a grid with Scale to Fit enabled and Miniature visuals disabled; when you reduce the size of your visual below the level of visibility, you might see the Can't Scale Visual warning:

This warning means that your visual can no longer be reasonably scaled to fit its container. If you see this warning, you should take one of the following actions:

  • Disable Scale to Fit. This stops Pyramid from trying to scale the contents of the visual to fit its container. The content of the container may end up too big to be shown on the page.
  • Enable Miniature visuals. This allows Pyramid to replace the visual with a miniature visual tile.
  • Use the drag handles to make the container larger, allowing more of the visual to be shown.
