Action Panel

Review this section to learn how to navigate the Action panel and configure dynamic actions for your data discoveries.

Configure Actions

The Actions panel is used to configure new actions, and to edit and delete existing ones.

Open the Action Panel

To open the Action panel, click Actions from the Home ribbon:

Action List

Add actions to the Action List using the plus sign (red arrow below). To delete an action, click the X next to it (purple arrow).

Action Settings


Name your action; the action's name will appear in the actions context menu later on.

Trigger Element

Set the trigger element from the query, which when clicked will trigger the action. This may be a report, hierarchy, measure, member, or cells. The action will be available only for the selected trigger.


The action will be available from any report element (any part of the visualization, its background, or the report canvas).


The action will be available only from the specified hierarchy. Therefore, you should select a hierarchy that has been added to the query.


The action will be available from the selected member element only. Therefore, you should select a member that has been added to the query.


The action will be available from the cell (data point) level only.

Action to Do

Choose the type of action that should be performed when the trigger element is selected.

Jump to Report

Open a report and inject filter parameters from the clicked data element. Choose this option if you want another report to open in Discover when the target is clicked. The Select Report drop down will open; find and select the required report from the folder tree.

Include Context

Select the Include Context checkbox if you want the output to include interactions you've performed on the query, such as dicing, and selecting a slice from a slicer. This option is only available if you select a data discovery as the report to open; it will not appear if you select a presentation.

Jump to URL

Use PQL functions to produce the URL and open it. You can use the Chat GPT function as part of your PQL statement.

Select this item if the desired action is to open a URL. The URL Data panel will open; copy and paste the required URL, and add any function that you want to perform on the target. To add functions to the URL, drag and drop the required jump functions and/ or common functions. for examples.

Execute JavaScript

Execute JavaScript in the browser. This option is only exposed if it's been enabled from the Admin console.

To create an action that will execute JavaScript, write an expression in PQL in the text editor; the output when the action is selected will be JavaScript. You can use the Chat GPT function as part of your PQL statement.

Create a tooltip that displays a specified data discovery or presentation. The report to show in the tooltip can be set according to the measures in the current query.

Hovering over the relevant measures, the tooltip will appear displaying the corresponding report.

If you choose to "include context" in the tooltip, they will be filtered according to the current query.

Open In

Choose whether the report or URL should be opened in a new tab, in a pop up, or in the current tab ("in place").

Execute Actions

To run any actions that have been configured, right click on the trigger element in the relevant report, then open the Actions sub-menu from the context menu, and click the required action:
