Show Legends in Visual Containers in Publish Lite

If your visual includes a legend, selecting the Legends option shows that legend inside the visual container. This is typically useful where there is no independent legend or the visual does not share its legend with other visuals. Hiding the legend (clearing this selection) may be useful if you have a small visual, an independent legend on the page, or multiple visuals share a legend (so you only need to show it once).

Note: Present Pro users can add legends to the canvas independently of their visuals (they can add a visual in one container and a legend in its own container). Where this is the case, you may not want to include legends for any of the visuals on the page, providing more space for the visual itself.

Show or Hide Legends

When you add a visual that contains a legend, the legend is shown within the visual's container. The following image shows the same visual with the legend shown (purple arrow) and hidden, but otherwise unchanged:

Note: Your visual may not contain a legend. For example, if your visualization type does not require a legend (such as a Matrix Grid), if your visual shows a single metric rather than a measure by a dimension, or if the legend has been hidden when editing the visual in Discover.

Customizing Legends

Present Lite does not include specific options for customizing the legends in your visuals beyond show or hide.

  • If you want to change the colors and styles used by the whole visual including the legend, and it is a one-off visual saved as part of this publication, you can change the theme for the whole publication including the visual and its legend. For more information, see Themes and Cover Pages in Publish Lite.
  • Otherwise, you can open the visual in Discover from the right-click context menu. Once the visual is open in Discover, you can edit the visual's legend, including its position, layout, text, and so on.
