Present Runtime Settings

Runtime Settings determine which functions and actions will be available when the presentation is launched in runtime. It also includes an ability to customize which hierarchies are shown to users in the Dice, Add and Swap context menus.

This is useful if there are actions and hierarchies that you want to disable due to privacy or governance, or to enhance the user experience for report viewers. For example, you may want to disable drill functions to stop users from drilling down into the data.

Note: When a user configures runtime settings, those settings are applied to the presentation for all users. However, any other users with write permissions to the presentation have the ability to change the runtime settings.

  • They are similar to the settings that can be set in Discover.

Open Runtime Settings Dialog

The Runtime Settings options are available on the Presentation ribbon:

Global-Scope Queries

Choose this option if your presentation contains the same data discovery on multiple slides, and you want to apply updates to each identical instance simultaneously. In this case, if you add the same data discovery to slides 1, 2, and 3, any update you make to the discovery from slide 2 (like drill, changing the visualization, applying a slicer selection) will also be applied to the discoveries on slides 1 and 3.

Slide-Scope Queries

Choose this option if your presentation contains the same data discovery on multiple slides, and you DON'T want to apply updates to each identical instance simultaneously. For instance, you might add the same data discovery to slides 1, 2, and 3, and you may want to make updates to the discovery on slide 1, without updating the discovery on slides 2 and 3.

Runtime Settings Dialog

Open the Runtime Settings dialog by clicking the Runtime Settings button.

The Runtime Settings dialog is split using the following tabs (green arrow):

  • Actions - which controls all the functionality exposed to end users consuming the dashboard
  • Hierarchies - which lets designers determine which model hierarchies are visible to end users in the Dice, Add, and Swap menus.

Actions

For actions, you can select one of three quick presets (yellow, above), or you can manually enable and disable the required functions.

  • Full Selection: enables all runtime settings; you may disable required settings by deselecting their checkbox.
  • Light Selection: enables only drill, dice, quick sort, quick filter, pivot, and conversations; you can manually disable any of these or enable additional functions.
  • Nothing Selected: disables all runtime settings; you can enable required settings by selecting their checkbox.

Query Context Actions

These actions are available from the right-click context menu and are used to dynamically interact with the query. Limiting these items will remove the user's ability to interact with the queries in the dashboard.

  • Drill-Up and Drill-Down: drill up or down to the next level of the hierarchy.
  • Expand and Collapse: expand lower levels of the hierarchy.
  • Dice, Add, Swap and Remove: drill across to another hierarchy, inject another hierarchy into the query, replace a hierarchy with a different one, or remove a hierarchy..
  • Drill to Level: drill to a specified level of the hierarchy.
  • Quick Sort: apply quick sorts from the context menu.
  • Quick Filter: apply quick filters from the context menu.
  • Member Selection: select a member to drill into it, expand it, dice, or focus or eliminate.
  • Pivot: switch the discovery's x- and y-axes.
  • Totals: add totals columns and rows to grids.
  • Interact: enable interactions between assets, so as to be able to filter Presetation assets in runtime.
  • Actions: enable users to launch actions that have been configured for the discovery.
  • Show Empties: show empty data cells.

Report Meta Actions

These actions are also available from the right-click context menu, but they affect the underlying report, rather than the instance currently being viewed.

  • Copy Content: copy the raw data from the discovery.
  • Build New Alert: create automated alters based on a given value in the discovery.
  • Analyze Further: opens the selected data discovery in Discover Lite, where the user can perform further analysis and save a new version of the discovery.
  • Change Visual: allows the user to change the visualization at runtime.
  • Conversations: threaded commentary and a chat-style experience.
  • Workflows: multi-step workflow experiences as designed by a developer.
  • Lasso: the lasso selection tool is used to cross-filter visuals by multiple member elements.
  • Metadata Info: opens a dialog that displays metadata information about the selected content item.
  • Smart Insights: determines if the Smart Insights functionality is available.
  • Chatbot: determines if the Natural Language Query Chatbot is available.
  • Explain: provides AI-driven insights into the factors driving, or contributing to, a data point of interest from any analysis.
  • OData Link: capture a special URL that allows you to read in the result set of the item's query into another client technology that consumes data.
  • Conditional Formatting: allows users to highlight important items in a visualization using mathematical or logical rules and graphical adjustments to the underlying chart or grid.
  • Ratings: rate a content item; the top 20 most recommended content items will appear in the User Recommended list.

Presentation

These actions are available from the runtime Presentation Menu.

  • Show Warnings: enable or disable messages around queries which have either failed or lack sufficient data to draw the currently selected visualization.
  • Ignore Query Cache: ignores cached queries.
  • Edit Presentation: exit runtime and open the presentation in edit mode.
  • Print or Export: enables users to print or export the presentation from runtime.
  • Subscribe: enables users to subscribe to presentations.
  • Multi-Highlight Mode: enable cross highlighting of visuals by multiple member elements by default.
  • Bookmarks: save multiple slicer selections in a presentation.
  • Full Screen: enables or disables users to use the full screen button in a presentation.

User Defaults

Remember user's last selection: set all current slicers in a dashboard to 'remember' each user's last slice selection for subsequent usage.

Hierarchies

Hierarchies adjustments allow designers to "slim down" very large data models as they appear in the Dice, Add, and Swap menus for end users. The settings are set per data model (blue arrow below) and apply across the entire presentation. After selecting a data model on the left, check which hierarchies will be visible for that model on the right (red arrow).

If there is only 1 model in the presentation, the model list will not be visible.
