Add Slicers

Slicers provides the ability to create different variations of a published document based on different *SLICES* of the data within a slicer (e.g. customers, employees, departments, etc). In effect, the user is creating a template in Publications, and can use the Interaction Manager to manage how the document will be populated at runtime.

Adding a slicer will open the Interaction Manager, which is an interface used to connect slicers to publication components (visualizations, dynamic assets, and sections). The interface handles the wiring up of the data elements even if they are from different data models, in different databases, or on different servers.

Once all the artifacts, dynamic text and sections have been added to the template, users can elect to attach one or more slices. This can produce hundreds and thousands of published report variations.

You can add a slicer to your publication in two ways:

  • Add an existing slicer from Discover

  • Build a new slicer in Publish

Add Slicers from Discover

To add filter or parameter slicers that have been saved as part of a query in Discover:

  1. Find the relevant slicer in the Content folders.
  2. Drag the slicer onto the canvas. This action will open the Interaction Manager.
  3. Drop the slicer onto the Interaction Manager, and find the slicer in the From column. Add interactions from the slicer by selecting the checkbox next the relevant visuals.

Add a New Slicer in Publish

Use this option to build slicers on the fly, or to filter your publication by elements from other data models.

Click Add New Slicer from the toolbox.

Select the relevant hierarchy from the Choose Data panel.

From the Interaction Manager, check the relevant boxes to add slicer interactions to visuals. From the Settings panel. You have 2 options:

Auto Destination: selected by default; if the visual sharing the interaction contains parameters, there will be options here to select a specific parameter to interact with the slicer.

Ignore Cross Model Mappings: select if you don't want Pyramid to recognize cross model mappings between the content items sharing the interaction.

Save changes to your report and configure slicer settings from the Slicers tab in the Print and Export dialog, or the Subscribe dialog.

Manage Slicers

Open the Interaction Manager from the toolbox to manager slicers.

Delete Slicers

To delete a slicer, open the Interaction Manager and click the "x" next to the slicer header, or right click on the relevant slicer header, and click Delete Slicer.
